An experimental investigation on the mullins effect of high damping rubber bearings at low temperatures

Nguyen Anh Dung

Abstract

The Mullins effect has been investigated for many years, it is still recognized as a major difficulty for rubber materials behavior. High damping rubber bearings (HDRBs) have been widely used in Japan due to their high flexibility and high damping capability. The mechanical properties of HDRBs are complicated such as the Mullins’ softening effect and temperature dependence. In order to investigate the low temperature dependence and the Mullins effect of HDRBs, sinusoidal loading tests were carried out on HDRBs specimens that were made from three different companies at -10oC and -30oC. The experimental results shown the low temperature dependence of the Mullins effect and HDRBs.
