Crater glaze in ceramic decorative art
Abstract
Crater glaze is a kind of ceramic glazes used in artistic decoration. This effect is due to the SiC compound in the glaze reacting to produce concentrated gas at the right time when the glaze has just melted to break the glaze film and form holes with a crater-like effect. Ingredients, sintering condition, viscosity of glaze when melted, thickness of glaze layer, gas release additives, glaze color additives, etc... are important technical factors that are focused on investigation. The research results have established a glaze with appropriate technological parameters, creating a diversity of crater effects on the ceramic glaze surface.
